Because my blankets are soft and have various textures, some people like to use them for mindfulness practices.  Mindfulness, in simplistic terms, is about staying in the moment - not being focused on the past or future, only the present.   Here is a simple exercise that can help quiet your brain:  Take 3 deep breaths, breathing in through your nose for the count of 4, hold for the count of four, and breathe out through your mouth for the count of 4.  Pause for the count of 4 and repeat 2 more times.  Then run your hand over the blanket.  Softly say out loud what you feel.  How does the blanket feel on your skin?  What textures do your hands feel?  Does it change as you move your hand around the blanket?  How heavy is the blanket?  How warm or cool do you feel?

Wellness Insight ~ Visualize Relaxation

There are many studies that show that visualization can have a positive impact on your emotional well-being.  By imaging peaceful and calming scenes, you can help activate the body’s relaxation response.  Lay down on a soft surface or snuggle up in a soft chair.  If you wish, you can grab one of my nature inspired blankets that reflects where you find peace.  My blankets A Nod to Ireland, On the Beach or A Walk in Nature are perfect for this, or you can grab another snuggly blanket you own.  Close your eyes and take deep breaths, breathing in through your nose for the count of 4, hold for the count of four, and breathe out through your mouth for the count of 4.  Pause for the count of 4 and repeat as you go through the visualization. Imagine yourself in the place where you find peace.

Engage your senses by visualizing the sights, the sounds, and the smells of this peaceful place.  Is there a breeze?  Do you feel the warmth of the sun or the coolness of the tree shade.  How does the earth feel under your feet?  Is it soft sand or cool dirt or grass.  Take deep breaths as you continue to experience this serene place.  Let go of stress and allow yourself the experience of peace.

Wellness Insight ~ Honor Your Victories

Most of us go through the day highlighting where we think we aren’t doing well enough. You might be saying to yourself “A good partner and parent would be more organized”, or “I should be doing more with my life”. This keeps us in a negative space which increases our stress.

Here’s a tool to start changing that:

At the end of the day, snuggle up with a cozy blanket and grab something to write with. Write down three things you did well during the day, no matter how small they may seem. Did you share a genuine laugh with your child? Extend a helping hand to a colleague? Perhaps you tackled that mountain of calls on your list. By documenting these victories, we signal to our brains the importance of recognizing our daily triumphs.

A cozy scene featuring an open notebook with a green cover and a black pen resting on it, next to a steaming, brown striped mug, all set on a patterned fabric surface with a fireplace in the background.

With this simple practice, you'll find your mindset shifting, and your outlook brightening. As you train your brain to seek out the positive, you'll discover a newfound balance in your daily perspective.

The wellness tips I provide can be found in many stress management, emotional wellness or relaxation guides.  I do not profess that they will heal you from stress, anxiety or depression.  The tips, many you may have already heard of, are reminders or suggestions for what you can do to start increasing your emotional wellbeing.  They are tools to add to your toolbox.  My blankets are included to demonstrate ways to get the most out of your blanket.  My blankets have no healing powers.  They are able to add coziness, texture, and warmth to help create a relaxing environment.
